TDS Calculator
Work out the TDS to deduct on a payment and the net amount payable to the other party.
Pick a section above or type any rate. Rates assume a valid PAN is available.
You deduct the TDS and pay the net amount; the TDS is deposited with the government against the payee's PAN.
What is TDS?
TDS — Tax Deducted at Source — means the payer deducts a small portion of tax before making certain payments and deposits it with the government on the payee's behalf. It is a way of collecting tax at the point a payment is made.
Common TDS sections and rates
| Section | Nature of payment | Common rate |
|---|---|---|
| 194C | Payment to contractors | 1% (individual / HUF) · 2% (others) |
| 194J | Professional or technical fees | 10% (2% for technical services) |
| 194H | Commission or brokerage | 2% |
| 194I | Rent — land or building | 10% |
| 194I | Rent — plant & machinery | 2% |
| 194A | Interest (other than on securities) | 10% |
Please verify before relying on these. Every section has a threshold below which no TDS applies, TDS is charged at a higher rate when the payee has no PAN, and the government revises rates from time to time. Always confirm the current rate and threshold for your specific payment, or check with your accountant.
How this calculator works
- TDS amount = Payment amount × TDS rate ÷ 100.
- Net amount payable = Payment amount − TDS amount.
